Our philosophy

"We're small, but we're great!" is the philosophy of our little wine-estate. Perhaps our family-business is still a secret, but we do not have any secrets to keep. The name "Heffner" is related to wine and the Rems-valley since 1443.

Then, 550 years ago, Hennßlin Heffner, the first proven winemaker of our family, made his first wines on the estate "Lindhalde", close to the village "Stetten" in the Rems-valley. With 550 years of wine-growing tradition we are obliged to tradition on one side- on the other side we use the latest knowledge and techniques to create high-quality instead of quantity

We work with environmentally friendly, quality oriented methods and techniques in our vineyards on the slopes of the Rems-valley in the villages "Geradstetten", "Hebsack", "Schnait" and "Beutelsbach". We believe that the conditions for good wines are set in the vineyards. The cultivation follows the guidelines of "integrated plant-cultivation".

This means: fertilizers, pesticides as well as works on the ground are adapted to the needs of the vines. The work on the foliage is done in a way that guarantees healthy grape-growth. Each variety and each slope is an unique part of nature. We only intervene if it's definitely necessary.

When the grapes are ripe they are picked and selected by hand. As a condition for highest quality, picking grapes manually is a matter of course. In our cellar, we work with the help of the latest techniques, but often with ancient methods as well.

Our red wines are fermented on the mash. All wines are created in small units, some of them in 225 l oak-barrels ("Barriques"). Our classic varieties are Riesling, Trollinger, Silvaner, Lemberger, Portugieser, Kerner und Spätburgunder. We offer specialities like Zweigelt, Dornfelder, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Muskattrollinger. New varieties like Regent and Acolon complete the range.

Caro-Secco, a sparkling- wine and Winemaker's Champagne (traditionally fermented in bottles) are great fun, whatever the occasion. Our self-distilled spirits and home-made liquors are a cosy pleasure at any time.

It is our aim to create terroir- wines of high quality. Each wine shall be as unique and individual as our customers, who drink it. It is possible, that there are only a few bottles of your favourite wine, and that it sells out quickly. But we are sure you will love it even more for that reason.

Since 2007 we have a service-quality Baden-Württemberg certification (I).
